Beyond the elastic limit

MATLAB elastoplastic solver

Mechanics of Solids and Materials Lab · University of Michigan

THE QUESTION

What happens after a material stops responding elastically?

My contribution

I engineered a MATLAB-based elastoplastic solver using return-mapping algorithms and cell-wise homogenization. The work focused on stress–strain behavior and heterogeneity in composite unit cells.

I also developed data analysis and visualization pipelines to interpret simulation outputs. Together, these tools supported scalable simulations and reusable workflows for fracture and durability studies.

OUTCOME / CONTRIBUTION

Reusable simulation and analysis workflows for composite unit cells.

The process

  1. 01

    Implement return-mapping algorithms

  2. 02

    Apply cell-wise homogenization

  3. 03

    Analyze and visualize stress–strain response
